American, 1912-2000
BiographyBorn in Rochester, NY, studied with Fernand Leger in Paris, 1932-34. Also worked as a commercial illustrator until 1950, when he was blacklisted for creating leftist cartoons for The Masses. Taught at SVA 1974-1990, and at the Art Students League 1984-1999. Died July 19, 2000, in Halthorne, NY. NYT obit ran on July 25, 2000.
