BiographyAugusta Adèle Smith (American, 1865-1957) daughter of Lavinia Cooper Reip Smith (1845-1885) and Joseph Stewart Smith. Joseph Smith was a banker/broker who lived at 1911 EutawPlace in Baltimore. In 1891 Augusta Adèle married Benjamin Bohen Jones (1863-1943), whom she called "Bohen." They moved to the house he had built built near Lake Roland after their marriage. In th 1900 Federal census she was living with Bohen and her mother-in-law Zeanett and had an 8 year old daughter Marguerite (at school). They had a gardener and a cook.
She was called Adèle and it was often spelled with an accent Adéle (by grandfather), Adèle (by teacher). Her diary for 1890-92 exists at The Maryland Historical Society as does her certificate from her school the Academy at 27 Cathedral St., Baltimore, dated June 18, 1879, and stating that she received a "Distinguished" rank in her class.
