for A Dowry... - You are aware of my son's wealth, be kind enough to tell me the dowry you are giving to your daughter.... - My daughter is a treasure.. - I'm sure of that, but she... - She is worth her weight in gold... - Undoubtedly, but her dow.... - She is rich in virtue! - Wonderful, but you are giving her...? - I give her my approval, my blessing and… how to make use of it. The young man in love, marries the girl, placates his father-in-law and curses the marriage.

for The ant. The two-legged ant, just like the multi-legged one is not generous, but that is the least one can reproach him. There is one difference though: the former is saving in every season and never consumes, even at the age of 90 he still economises for his old days. This type of ant leads always a miserable life. When he dies, he is deprived of everything despite of the provisions, because his last savings are spent for his funeral.

for Trouvé-Chauvel. Strict guardian of the Republic's finances, citizen Trouvé-Chauvel never separates himself from the treasure, even when he goes to the National Assembly. It is true that it is very easy for him to carry it over his shoulder. This minister has an obsession, which is making him quite unhappy; he wants to balance revenue with expenditure, but he cannot find the means to this end.... also, he doesn't like people saying to him: - have you found it, Chauvel?....

for Yes Madame, I am with all my available means devout to our August Prince; all I need are some miserable hundred thousand francs to establish his accession to the throne. - And what are your means? - My means! I have plenty of them. I have friends, newspapers, and if the entire Macaire family supports him, never a prince had such a huge army at his service.

for Sue him.....sue him..... That would be a good trick to play on your neighbour... it would eat up all his savings, at least 100 écus.... - Yes but I would also have to eat into my savings and I really have no appetite for that....
